Neurodivergent

The Neurodivergent collection depicts the feeling of being Neurodivergent, which for Bethany is Autistic + ADHD + Dyslexia + Dyscalculia.

The collection began as a way for Bethany to illustrate what she was feeling in moments of verbal shutdown during her diagnostic process, which led her to have a heart attack from processing the trauma of growing up undiagnosed.

This dynamic collection includes pieces made with different mediums, including but not limited to: watercolor, ink, acrylic, and oil. This is intentionally done to allow the expression of authenticity to come through in any medium that suits the moment.

Artist Statement

My work is deeply rooted in the themes of nature, flora, and fauna, where I seek to capture the spiritual and physical connections between humans and the natural world. I use a variety of mediums, including acrylics, watercolors, ink, and digital art, to express my evolving vision. Each piece is a testament to my belief that we are not separate from nature but an intrinsic part of it, bound together in love and peace.

As a neurodivergent individual, I have often felt “other” in the world. This feeling of disconnection from society has fostered a unique bond with the natural world, which has become my sanctuary. Through my art, I express the deep, personal connection I feel to nature, using it as a means to communicate themes of belonging and unity. It is my hope that others can see themselves reflected in my work and feel inspired to take action in preserving the Earth we all share.

My artistic journey has been shaped by both struggle and triumph. From a young age, my natural talent for art was recognized, though I was often encouraged to pursue science over creativity. It wasn’t until college that I rediscovered my love for painting. In the years that followed, I faced physical challenges due to chronic illness, yet I found solace and empowerment in merging my scientific background with my artistic expression. This combination has allowed me to share my story and message: that art can inspire change, foster peace, and bring us closer to the world we must protect.

Through my art, I invite others to reflect on their place in the world and remember that we are all part of a greater whole.
