The Diablerie Trilogy
The Diablerie Trilogy by C.J. Sparrow (Bethany's Pen Name) is a fantasy series that follows the journey of Tovey, a neurodivergent teen grappling with her mysterious origins and a prophecy that hints at her demonic heritage. In the first book, Tolerant, Tovey escapes a controlling collective, only to be hunted by a bowman as she flees into the Tenbris. She eventually returns to serve the kingdom of Abolend, where she learns of King Mallum's secret pursuit of a demon foretold to bring chaos—bearing striking similarities to her own birth. Determined to outrun the dark forces within her, Tovey flees the kingdom, leading Prince Cullus of Abolend to strike a deal with her: her freedom in exchange for infiltrating an enemy kingdom to prevent an impending war.
As Tovey reconnects with old friends and discovers a hidden subterranean world, she embraces her ancestral legacy and confronts the demonic magic within her. This journey of self-discovery and acceptance is central to the trilogy, highlighting themes of identity, belonging, and the struggle between one's inherent nature and external expectations.
Throughout the series, Tovey's experiences reflect a profound exploration of personal growth, the complexities of human connection, and the quest for inner peace amidst external turmoil.

Tolerant
Isolated and on the run, Tovey is a servant who knows she may not survive her escape from the collective through the Tenbris—an unexplored forest where defectors are slaughtered. But when she learns of an ancient prophecy that claims she will bring the final war, she flees.
Now Tovey will be a true renegade as she runs for her life and abandons her obligation as a servant and begins a quest to stop the prophecy alongside her kingdom’s mysterious heir—Cullus. He believes Tovey can be the key to convincing Abolend’s enemy to agree to uphold peace, but only if she believes in her innate magic even she didn’t realize she possessed.
As the prophecy nears fruition and the unlikely duo enters enemy territory, Tovey connects to her dark magic, finds her voice, and discovers the dangers of putting trust in those she doesn’t fully know, threatening the future of Valledera and her very life.

Unspoken
Abandoned in enemy territory, Tovey is a defector whose memory is foggy and who knows she has a new and terrifying eye color—red. Alone in Silvis she must escape the dryads—an enemy kingdom where tree-like people reign. But when she learns of her ancestors and true origin, she begins to embrace her magic.
Now Tovey will become a warrior as she learns of a horrific betrayal and abandons everything she once believed to be true and begins a quest to end the madness encompassing the final war. Chief Arden of Silvis encourages Tovey to embrace her inner self as she takes lead to form a new alliance.
As she reunites with old friends, experiences friendship and discovers a subterranean world, Tovey embraces her ancestors, feeds the demonic magic within her while finding her voice to know exactly how she is going to fulfill the prophecy, by threatening the very kingdom she once loved—Abolend.
